How to Repurpose Content on Instagram into Pinterest Idea Pins

Have you ever created any educational content for your Instagram audience, but it just seems to disappear after a peak 48 hours and no one ever hears of it again? If you want a powerful way to repurpose your genius educational Instagram posts into content that can be searchable and found for months and years, then please meet the Pinterest Idea Pin!

So, what are Idea Pins? Idea pins are short form video or carousel posts on Pinterest that are similar but WAAAY more powerful than Instagram Reels or Stories!

One thing we know about Pinners is that they love to plan. Part of the planning process is to be inspired and to be informed through educational and “how-to” type of content. We also know that video pins have a high conversion rate because it catches the eye more than a static pin. These two things combined make it a killer combination for Idea Pins to be a short form video or carousel of slides that provide inspirational and educational content for Pinners.

Idea Pin Updates! (2023 and 2024)

Pinterest has made an update to Idea Pins where everything is just “PINS” now! Yay! This makes it reallllly simple for you when creating Pins. BUT, for the purpose of this blog and explaining the difference between traditional Pins as images with text and Pins as Reels/TikToks on Pinterest, I’m going to continue to use “Idea Pin” to refer to the type of pins that are like Instagram Reels and TikToks.

What makes Idea Pins so powerful?

Unlike your Instagram Stories (24 hours) or Feed Posts (48 hours) or Reels (Unknown), your Pinterest Idea Pins can live on because they are searchable on Pinterest and found by using keyword rich titles and descriptions.

ALSO, you may be thinking “Pinterest is only for people with blogs. I don’t have a blog!” Do these Idea Pins help? Yes!

The information should be digestible from the slides or video that is posted. If the Pinner wants more they will visit your profile or you can add a link in the notes for them to take action!

Are you ready to repurpose?

On Instagram we often see educational content in the form of Instagram Reels or Carousel feed posts (where you add multiple pictures that make up a slide-show). This type of content is perfect for Pinterest Idea Pins.

Other Ideas for Repurposing Instagram Content to Idea Pins

  • For creators: If you create Instagram Stories that are tutorials or educational through showing your audience how to do something, you can download these stories and pull them together to create an Idea Pin. (For example, a recipe tutorial)

  • For product businesses: Pull together multiple photos of a single product into an Idea Pin and create a story that can inspire your customer on how to use this product.

  • For service businesses: Go through your recent captions. I KNOW you have stories and juicy tips buried in those captions. Pull some of that out and create a few slides with those tips OR use that as voice-over in a video.
